To Pop or Not to Pop the Zits
Pimples. They can just pop up on our skin at the worst of times, especially on days that we want to look our best or on that special day we want to dress up. When that happens, the first question that will most likely to appear in our thoughts is, “should I pop that darn pimple?”
This question is no stranger to every human being in the entire world. We, at some point in our lives, will inevitably noticed the sudden appearance of a bright, red bump on our skin that popped out without warning.
According to dermatologists, popping pimples is a big no-no as it will cause even further damage to the skin. The pimple, or medically known as the pustule, is a sac that contains excess sebum, acne-causing bacteria and dirt. The moment the pimple is burst, the bacteria will be released and may even embed itself to surrounding pores causing even more inflammation on the skin. If the pimple is popped without a sterilised tool or clean fingers, the dirt and other bacteria have opportunities to enter into the epidermis. This may cause serious inflammation or even an infection within the skin that may leave scars. Hyperpigmentation on the skin can be a possibility too.
The best answer to the age old question is to leave the pimple alone. Usually, the pimple will reduce and be gone entirely within 3 to 7 days. Keep the face clean constantly, and to wash the skin with facial cleansers. It is recommended to use Living and Pace’s The Valley’s Gel Cleanser in order to remove excess sebum without drying out the skin. If the pimple problem remains stubborn, it is advisable to seek professional help.
Now, what if the pimple is too tempting to resist, and your hands quake in uncontrollable urge to pop that inflammed white head off your skin? Dermatologist recommends these few steps:
- Keep your hands, especially your fingers thoroughly clean. The hands have to be thoroughly washed and cleaned before even touching the skin of your face.
- Sterilise pimple popping tools. If you are planning to use any needles or pimple poppers, make sure that they are sterilised.
- Pop pimples only if they are ‘riped’. A ripe pimple usually has a white, swollen head that seems ready to burst open anytime. If you found any on your face, squeeze the pimple by placing the fingers surrounding the pimple, NEVER directly on the pimple itself.
- Wash your face daily with a suitable skin care product. It is definitely encouraged for people from all walks of life to start washing their face daily with proper products. Living and Pace The Valley series is the perfect product to keep those pimples at bay.
So, to pop or not pop the zit – that is a question that we hope can solve the irritations of a pimple with our answers and products.
